Kreator is a German thrash metal band that was founded in 1982 as a school band in Essen under the name Tyrant. As one of the most famous and oldest German bands in this genre, together with the bands Destruction and Sodom, they form the so-called triumvirate of German thrash metal. Starting out as a classic heavy metal band, Anthrax quickly developed their typical thrash metal sound. Together with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer, they played their way into the ranks of the "Big Four" - the most important four bands in thrash metal
